Park Royal Centre for Mental Health has two forensic Low Secure inpatient wards: Tasman ward and Java House The aim of forensic mental health services is to provide high quality holistic care and treatment in a secure setting.

Tasman Ward

The primary function of Tasman Ward is to deliver individualised care and treatment whilst protecting the public. Low secure services aim to reduce the risk individuals pose to others so that they can return to the community in the least restrictive environment possible.

Tasman Ward will assess, treat, provide therapeutic activities alongside rehabilitation to reduce and manage the risk of those with Mental Health Difficulties who on admission may present with a risk to themselves and the public of which is less grave than medium secure.

On completion of their assessment and/or treatment, Tasman patients will

  1. return to prison to continue their sentence or
  2. move through their pathway to a secure rehab unit like Java House
  3. return to the least restrictive environment in the community.

Patients who are admitted to Tasman ward are expected to fully participate in their comprehensive and detailed treatment programme with a goal of planned rehabilitation and resettlement in the community.

Treatments and therapies include:

  • Mental health therapies and treatment
  • Physical health care Socialisation and rehabilitation into the community
  • Arts Psychotherapy
  • Cognitive Behaviour Therapy
  • Daily living skills

Java House

Java House is a six-bedded open Forensic Rehabilitation Facility, providing a hospital rehabilitation environment where therapeutic and rehabilitation targets can be met, prior to community placement.

Java provides a comprehensive rehabilitation and recovery programme of care and treatment with an emphasis on independent living skills, community orientation, and community involvement with thorough, and robust, discharge planning.

Java house recognises that that each patient has unique concerns and needs in relation to moving back into community living.  Therefore, comprehensive care packages and risk management plans are tailored to meet the individual’s needs.

The appropriately skilled multidisciplinary team is committed to providing all possible opportunities, to enable and sustain successful discharge into the community.

Therapeutic rehabilitation programmes are designed to maximise the individual’s potential, and minimise risk (both to self and others).
