On 28 February 2025 CNWL CAMHS held a celebration of improvement and innovation across London and Milton Keynes services.
Meeting was hosted by Azer Mohammed (Clinical Director), Andrea Shand (Service Director) and Steffney Kamara (Service Director)
Attended by staff, senior leaders and parent Experts by Experience.
Program included range of exciting presentations followed by break out groups to consider plans and mechanisms to move proven innovations to business as usual.
Happy Doc Spreadathon kicked off the day with presentation of use of QI methodology to implement spread.
Happy Doc change ideas were developed by K & C CAMHS as part of a previous CNWL collaborative. This work scrutinised assessment processes and reduced time taken on initial assessment process by 30% with improvement of clinician satisfaction and high levels of patient satisfaction. Once changes were implemented sustainably in Sept 2023 the Spreadathon was implemented. K & C CAMHS supported teams to test and adapt change ideas in 3 further teams.
Change ideas tested included
1.Use of a pre-collected medical and developmental history form
2.Use of a revised Assessment Form with Automated Care Plan letter
3.Use of Digital Dictation software
Results were phenomenal: Aggregate data for the 3 spread teams for the Main Outcome Measure achieved a 46% reduction in Total Time for Assessment (Mean time from 305 minutes to 187 minutes). The Process Measure using the new Assessment Form and Care plan letter reduced time by 52% (from 185 minutes to 88 minutes)
Breakout groups worked on defining barriers and enablers to full implemtation of the change ideas across all outpatient CAMHS.
Team achievements were recognised with the following awards:
K and C CAMHS: Commitment to the QI Journey
Harrow CAMHS Neurodevelopmental Team: Passionate High Achievers
Milton Keynes SPA Team: Passion and Resilience Award
Westminster CAMHS: Inspiring Progress to Business As usual
Next up was a session focussed on incorporating and better understanding service user views and experiences using emotion mapping. This powerful tool was demonstrated by one of our service users featured in a video demonstration.
Intensive work streamlining and simplifying ADHD pathways (in Milton Keynes) and improving flow through the ADHD pathway(in Brent) using a digital psychoeducation platform was shared. Other CAMHS Teams had already rapidly moved to adopt the psychoeducation platform
Doug Stewart, CNWL Chief Clinical Information Officer, opened the afternoon session with inspiring ideas on what we can expect in our CNWL digital future. Dr Noah Stanton presented data on the use of AI Ambient Voice Technology to record CAMHS consultations resulting in substantial time savings, positive patient and service user feedback. Dr Jabeer Awed and Dr Reddy Atigadda demonstrated work to optimise the SystemOne interface on This streamled access to essential functions. Time savings using the improved interface equated to time savings of 38 work days for ward doctors a year and 49 work days for nurses with positive implication for patient safety, job satisfaction and patient outcomes.
Qualitative feedback from staff:
- Ease of Use
"The visualisation makes everything accessible by putting it in one place which is much easier."
- Reduced Errors
"The traffic light system highlights missing data, which helps ensure completeness."
- Time-efficient
“Using the visualisation has saved me so much time that I am done with tasks when ward round ends.”.
Delegates left the day ready to implement the tested changes in their services.
