World Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Week (WAAW) is marked from 18-24 November to raise awareness and understanding of antimicrobial resistance. Antimicrobials are essential to treat serious infections caused by microorganisms such as bacteria and viruses. Unfortunately the more we use antimicrobials the less effective they become. The more bacteria are exposed to antibiotics, the more likely they are to become resistant.

The Intermediate Community Bed Escalation (ICE) Hub was recognised earlier this year as a finalist for the Community Care Initiative of the Year at the HSJ Patient Safety Awards. Launched in 2021 in North West London (NWL) and later expanded to North Central London (NCL), the ICE Hub serves as a single point of access for transitioning patients from acute hospital care to community-based rehabilitation.
