Armed Forces Week (24 to 29 June 2024) is a chance to show our support for the people who make up the Armed Forces community: from currently serving personnel to service families, veterans and cadets.
In London, it is estimated that 1.4% (101,000 people) are part of the armed forces community.
It’s important to raise awareness of the mental health and wellbeing challenges experienced by members of the Armed Forces both during and after service, to highlight the vulnerabilities of this group as well as the unique risks and experiences they face.
Our events
CNWL publicly signed the Armed Forces Covenant to show our ongoing commitment as an NHS organisation, and we’re developing a three-year plan to meet the eight mandates of Veteran Aware Accreditation.
We’ve set up a dedicated webpage, which includes information about upcoming events and organisations who provide a range of support services.
A huge thank you to our colleagues who hosted a stall at Trust Headquarters to mark Armed Forces Week. You can see the pictures below.
Highlights included:
- We heard from a serving Reservist in the NHS, who showed us the contents of a ration pack, which includes ready to eat meals that sustain one active person for 24 hours while on operations.
- Chief People Officer, Nick Green, joined us to talk about the importance of supporting the Armed Forces community.
There are many ways for colleagues to show their support and get involved:
- Familiarise yourself with the organisations that provide advice and support to the Armed Forces family. You can download and display this poster locally.
- Complete the free Service Champions Training, provided by NHS Armed Forces Network, for people who are interested in helping their organisation to become more Armed Forces community aware. Book here
