CNWL’s Brent Mental Health Services football project, in partnership with Beyond Education Sports Foundation, has been awarded £48,990 to exclusively support Brent mental health service users and residents with an innovative sports engagement programme.

The funding was awarded as part of Brent Council’s ‘You Decide’ initiative where residents of Harlesden were invited to vote for projects which could make a positive impact in their local area.

Richard Hay, Mental health Support Worker, started the Brent Mental Health Services football project in 2017 so that service users in Brent could access and engage with local services and community groups through sport and fitness. He is now working in partnership with The Raheem Sterling Foundation, Silver Jubilee Park, Beyond Education and Sports and Sufra Food Bank and Kitchen.

Richard said: “this project has been about improving people’s mental and physical health by removing the barriers of cost, breaking down stigma and improving people’s relationship with local services and communities. With the help of this funding, I will continue my civic responsibilities and continue to establish links with likeminded individuals and local businesses so we can keep supporting people with lived experience of mental health.

Congratulations to Richard, our partners and everyone involved with this project.
