Today, 21 November, is carers rights day, which raises awareness of Carers’ rights and entitlements.

Every day, 12,000 people become unpaid carers for a partner, family member or a friend – many of whom don’t see themselves as carers, often unaware of their legal rights and what they’re entitled to in terms of support and benefits - (Carers UK). This year’s theme is ‘recognising your rights’ and we want to help carers recognise and understand their rights, and access the support available to them.

To mark the day, CNWL’s Carers at Work Staff (CAW) Network planned a series of virtual events.

  • Staff were invited to join a self-compassion for carers session earlier this week along with a session to showcase and celebrate the implementation of Triangle of Care across CNWL and how we, as a Trust, are involving and supporting carers, family and friends.
  • Tom Shearer, CNWL's Chief Financial Officer and Carers at Work Executive Sponsor and Graeme Caul, Chief Operating Officer and Carers Council Exec Sponsor are giving an update on everything relating to carer support at CNWL
  • A quiz and presentation about Carers rights - Thank you to our Staff Networks Coordinator, Anne Power, for putting this together.
  • An opportunity to meet the CAW Committee and find out what the Network does, how the Trust and the employee benefit.
  • 26 November, Carers UK will be running a session for carers to learn about what help and support is available in terms of the cost of living crisis

The full programme of events can be found on the Trustnet and searching ‘carers rights day’. All CNWL Colleagues are invited to participate in Harrow’s Carers Month events, which are also listed in the programme

The Carers at Work Staff Network is here to support you. Staff and managers can access a wealth of resources on Trustnet. Search ‘Carers at Work’.

We’d love to know what you're doing locally for working carers. If you’re joining any events, send us your photos on social media by tagging @CNWLNHS
