Ross Graves, the Executive Director for Strategy, said,

“This job is fundamental to the changes the NHS is making just now. Making services more integrated so you see those looking after all aspects of your care at much the same time, or close to it; with staff working together across disciplines and often across organisations. And care is delivered in the patient’s home, or in the community as close to home as possible. This is what patients say they want to see. The Trust Strategy gives us a map and we are building the roads to get there! Meera’s appointment will help us reach that.”

Meera said, “I hope to make it easier for our teams to deliver what they came to work to do, and for patients to play a central role in that change. I want to foster an environment that empowers us all to challenge things that get in the way of delivering great care, and reminds us that we are all here to support the diversity of the community and people.”

Meera has worked for over 20 years in health and social care, starting out as a mental health support worker in Brent.

“I had from the outset, the exposure to working with a range of other services including the NHS and the voluntary sector to meet the needs of those I was I supporting. It was meant to have been a stop gap whilst I pursued a different career in IT but I was hooked and wanted to stay in Mental Health.”

“One of my most fulfilling points in my career has to lead the development of the first adolescent unit in North West London, Lavender Walk. It meant that young people needing a hospital admission could stay closer to home and their families which is so important. I also supported the development of the Community Strategy, highlighting the vital role our physical health services play across people’s lives– from antenatal to end of life.”

Married and proud mother to 2 teenagers (13 and 14 years old),  she says, “I love music, dancing and recently discovered gardening.  I am a Trustee for Become, a wonderful charity who supports Children in Care and those leaving care.  As someone who has experience of the care system and leaving care, I am trying to do more to support others in whatever way I can.”
