Maliqa Malik, Mental Health Nurse and EDI (Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion) Lead at Tasman Ward, was invited to 10 Downing Street by Prime Minister, Keir Starmer to celebrate Ramadan and recognise the contributions of Muslims in public service.
The event included a speech from the Prime Minister, reflecting on the significance of Ramadan. An Imam also spoke on the month’s importance, followed by Iftar and Maghrib Salah with attendees.
Maliqa was the only NHS representative present, a testament to her dedication as a nurse, Muslim leader, and advocate. She is also an active member of the NHS Muslim Network, volunteering as Deputy Head of Mental and Personal Wellbeing.
Patrick Gillespie, Service Director for CNWL's Health and Justice Services said:
“I am so proud of you and the positive reflection this brings to our entire team. The fact that you were the only NHS representative present speaks volumes about the impact you are making. Your dedication to EDI and faith support, particularly your superb work on Tasman, is truly commendable. Your efforts in preparing patients who wish to fast during Ramadan are especially noteworthy.”
