Jane Young, Bladder & Bowel Nurse Consultant has collaborated with the NWL Infection Control team to create a short animation on urinary tract infections (UTI).

The animation will be aired in GP surgery’s, library’s and government buildings to raise awareness on diagnosis, management and prevention of urinary tract infections.

UTI’s cost the NHS millions of pounds every year in treating with antibiotics and hospital admissions, and can be fatal. Blind prescribing, where antibiotics are given without the urine being tested is contributing the global crisis of anti-microbial resistance - in other words, reducing the effectiveness of anti-biotics.

The animation informs patients on the symptoms, treatment and offers advice regarding prevention. NWL ICB are monitoring UTI rates and implementing strategies to reduce them.
