Vaccination has transformed public health and it’s worth making a song and dance about it – so we have, again.
“Remember your jabs” sees staff from St Charles Mental Health Unit dance along to a song originally made famous by the musical Fame. In this version staff from CNWL’s staff wellbeing choir perform the original lyrics written by Gill Case, Deputy Director of Infection, Prevention and Control at CNWL. They are led by CNWL’s Chief Nurse, Maria O’Brien, Chief Medical Officer, Dr Con Kelly and Dr Ryan Kemp, Director of Therapies.
Maria O’Brien, Chief Nurse, said
“Thank you the 800 staff who have had their boosters so far and those of you who are planning to go to a clinic in the coming days. Having your booster and flu jab will make sure you continue to have the best protection. Like the flu, the Covid vaccine changes routinely in response to circulating variants – it offers the best protection against the latest variants and is different to the boosters you’ve already had to protect ourselves to the best of our ability. Staff are much more likely than the average person to come across people who may be infected, so please make your plan to get vaccinated.”
Staff can find all the latest clinics on Trustnet.
Vaccination is safe and effective. It cannot give you the flu or Covid but it does give protection against the strains of the viruses that will be circulating this year.
About the song
This is the sixth year the Trust has launched a song but this year rather than focusing on the flu jab the song includes the importance of the Covid boosters too which are both available now and free for all CNWL staff.
Thank you to all staff and volunteers who contributed to this year’s song.
The song lyrics were re-written by Gill Case, CNWL’s Deputy Director of Infection, Prevention and Control and recorded and performed by Eleanor Rastall, Gillian Buckley, Belinda Chalom and Mary Ann Monaghan from CNWL’s staff wellbeing choir for the vocals, alongside Gill Case and Clare Palmer from the Trusts Infection, Prevention and Control Team
Thank you for the inspiration “Fame” sung by Irene Cara for Fame the Musical
Written by Michael Gore (music) and Dean Pitchford (lyrics)

Lyrics this year
The time is getting near, when vaccines will appear,
Helping us to keep germs at bay
Keeping patients safe, its way to go
We have battled strong, the fight has been too long
But we have the weapons at hand
Now with me take a stand!
Remember your jab!
Flu! It’s been around forever
COVID is new to the game
Now there are vaccines to help us
Not having them would be a shame
I'm gonna get me a vaccine
Protecting my patients from harm
Come get a vaccine and join me
Its just a small prick in the arm
(Remember….)
We have a duty firm, to minimise the germ
Washing hands will help that’s for sure
Use IPC in fighting this war today
But the thing that’s rad, is our vaccine jab
It’s the best way that we can be
Safe to care, come with me!
Flu! It’s been around forever
COVID is new to the game
Now there are vaccines to help us
Not having them would be a shame
I'm gonna get me a vaccine
Protecting my patients from harm
Come get a vaccine and join me
Its just a small prick in the arm
(Remember…..,)
I'm gonna get me a vaccine
Protecting my patients from harm
Come get a vaccine and join me
Its just a small prick in the arm
