CNWL’s Volunteer Service has been shortlisted for three Helpforce Champion Awards in 2023, recognising their fantastic contribution to volunteering in the UK’s health and care sector.

The awards are a chance to shine a light on those who give their time to help health and care organisations, to support people, staff and their families and carers.

This year, we've been shortlisted in three categories:

  • Ania Adams: Volunteer Lead of the Year
  • Nicola Jhumat: Outstanding Staff Champion of the Year
  • CNWL Volunteer to Career Programme: Best Volunteer to Career programme

Nuria de Miguel, Volunteer Services Manager said:

“We are so humbled to be shortlisted for these three categories. This shows the commitment CNWL has to volunteers, creating opportunities for them to develop their skills and experience at the same time they support patients, carers, and staff. Our VtC lead has been working tirelessly with different teams to create new roles that provide these opportunities for development and growth.”

The Trust’s Volunteer to Career (VtC) programme launched in October 2022, transforming the volunteering experience into a stepping stone towards a healthcare career.

We’ve celebrated 15 job outcomes within the NHS, including entry-level positions as healthcare assistants, psychological professions and analysists, in clinical and non-clinical roles. We created three new volunteer roles at St Charles Hospital acute mental health wards, opening the door to 16 volunteers.

“I am a testament to the fact that volunteering can lead to incredible careers and that dreams can become a reality. My journey began as a service user, but through the power of volunteering, I was able to turn my passions into a thriving career.”

The winners of 2023 will be invited to a special awards ceremony at the Royal Airforce Club in London, on 13 October.
