Dr Parvinder Shergill premiered her noir feature thriller MAGPIE at Genesis Cinema, where the event brought together West London NHS Trust colleagues for a unique experience.

The private screening, complete with drinks and popcorn, was followed by an insightful conversation with the talented crew behind the film:

Director Sam Yates, star Daisy Ridley (credits: Star Wars), and writer Tom Bateman.

The cast and crew shared valuable insights into the filmmaking process, discussing themes of obsession, mental health, and relationships. Daisy Ridley emphasized the importance of mental health and how she disconnects after intense shoot days. Sam Yates and Dr. Shergill also explored how skills in film and medicine align, highlighting teamwork and problem-solving.

Dr Parvinder said:

"Our film this year is a noir feature thriller with themes of obsession, mental health, and relationships.

Held at Genesis Cinema, the resident doctors enjoyed a private screening room, with soft drinks and popcorn provided.

The cast and crew spoke at length about the process of filmmaking and how the psychology and psyche of the characters really helped their filmmaking shot list. Daisy spoke about the importance of her mental health and learning to mentally remove herself and switch off after an intensive shoot day.

Sam and I shared how film and art are transferable skills, just as doctors are managing a variety of teams and problem solving, so is the same in film. Everyone then had an opportunity to ask questions to the team, and had one on one time taking pictures and personal conversation with the cast/crew."

Parvinder’s previous work includes co-writing and producing Kaur, which was credited by Netflix.
