In an inspiring show of support, father and son Tony and Tommy Elliott are gearing up for the 2025 Brighton Marathon to raise funds for CNWL NHS Health Charity.

The pair, who have been training since early this year aim to raise £1,000 to support pioneering projects that will make a real difference in the health and wellbeing of patients, staff and communities.

Tony, who works for Quality Trusted Solutions at CNWL last ran a marathon over 15 years ago, when his son Tommy was attending junior school. Next year’s marathon will be his nineteenth one!

“Someone asked if I had another Marathon in me, at first I thought not, but the motivation of getting to do this as a Father and Son team was what gave me the motivation I needed. It will be our first running event together.” said Tony.

Their decision to fundraise for CNWL NHS Health Charity was driven by their gratitude to make a positive impact by contributing to projects, and ideas that directly enrich patient’s lives.

CNWL NHS Health charity is the established charity for the CNWL. They raise funds for exciting, and pioneering projects that improve health and wellbeing for our patients, staff and communities.

Through their official fundraising page, Tony and Tommy have already raised over £100 in donations from friends, family, and community members who are inspired by their journey.

“We are both regular runners, although Tommy is fit as a fiddle. He runs a lot and is accustomed to some more extreme events, tough mudder etc. Tommy lives in Surrey and I live on the south coast so the Idea of the Brighton Marathon was born.

We run together when he comes to visit me and I am pushed to my limit! He is always very kind though and stays at my pace even though I know he could leave me for dust!”

The Brighton Marathon 2025, set for 6 April, is expected to attract thousands of participants from across the UK. Tony and Tommy’s goal is to not only complete the marathon but to encourage others to support mental health services and break down the stigma surrounding mental health.

“We have set ourselves an ambitious target to raise £1,000 between us and we hope this can be achieved or even surpassed. The hard training has begun for both of us to gradually build up the mileage and stamina so hopefully we can do everyone proud on the day.” Tony said.
