CNWL is working alongside two partnering organisations to deliver free training offers across areas of North West London; each focused on building resilience within our communities. The offers are designed to help people develop a toolkit to support one another in areas of mental health and wellbeing.

These offers are being coordinated by the Community Partnerships and Engagement Team in CNWL’s Jameson Division with offers from national charities, Chasing the Stigma and Rethink Mental Illness. Each session is free and available to CNWL staff, patients, carers, non-CNWL staff, community leaders, volunteers and representatives from third sector and grassroots organisations.

The three offers are:

  • Mental Health First Aid Training delivered by CNWL Wellbeing Advisors – Comprehensive two-day (or four half-day) training course teaching you how to identify, understand and help someone experiencing a mental health issue. You will be empowered to spot early signs of ill health, build the confidence to start supportive conversations and learn how to signpost people to essential services. Like first aid for physical health, Mental Health First Aid gives you the tools to help assess, react and respond to a person in crisis. Available to people who live, work or care in the following boroughs (Harrow, Brent, Kensington & Chelsea, Westminster).
  • Ambassador of Hope Training delivered by Chasing the Stigma – Written from a lived experience point-of-view, this training aims to normalise and humanise conversations around mental health. This 1 hour session is not intended to make someone an expert in mental health but instead offers essential information and a toolkit to improve confidence in the topic. Available to people who live, work or care in the following boroughs: Harrow, Brent, Kensington & Chelsea, Westminster and Hillingdon.
  • Suicide Awareness delivered by Rethink Mental Illness – Training that explores the stigma associated with suicide and ways of challenging it. You’ll be taught how to assess warning signs around suicide and be advised on how you can have safe conversations with someone who is having suicidal thoughts. Available to people who live, work or care in all NWL boroughs (Brent, Harrow, Hillingdon, Westminster, Kensington & Chelsea, Hammersmith & Fulham, Hounslow, Ealing).

Our Wellbeing Advisors, Dominique Gibson and Priscilla Joseph, say “we are so excited to partner with our third sector colleagues to combine our training offers in this way. By sharing this message, we can provide the tools to support mental health within the community, furthering our goal to strengthen our ties with the local community which will impact the mental health of the nation, one voice at a time.”
