The Royal College of Occupational Therapists national OT Week runs from 7 to 13 November, and during this time OTs are encouraged to celebrate and share their love of the profession.

We are very lucky to have 299 Occupational therapists working in all specialities in CNWL across mental and physical health services – in fact they work in 116 different teams across the trust.

Although their roles can look very different, they are all joined together by the underlying principle of the profession: We can only be healthy humans if we are engaged in activities that are meaningful to us and we can achieve what we need and want to throughout our day.

This means OTs truly focus on patient goals, whether that is to manage their activities of daily living, return to work, engage in a leisure activity, manage the home environment or complete a role as a care giver.

The Associate Director for AHP’s and Trust Head of Profession for OT, Emma Nicklin said: “I qualified as an OT in 2000 and I have the same passion for the profession now as I did 25 years ago when I started my training.

“Every day I see the power of supporting people to engage in things that are important to them – it’s not rocket science but meaningful activities are what we all live for.  I want to wish all our amazing OTs a wonderful OT week you are a truly amazing group of staff.  I hope to see many of you at our virtual CPD events across the week.”

As well as the central timetable, there will be multiple events across the trust run within services and divisions, please contact your local Head OT for details of what is happening in your area and share events in social media and with comms using the following #CNWLOT #OTWeek2022 #ProudOT @CNWLNHS.

The theme for OT week this year, set by the Royal College of OTs, is “Lift Up Your Everyday”.

This campaign is about giving people the knowledge to make changes that will have a positive impact on their lives – it’s always easier with a little help from an expert. OTs across the country will share their OT Life Hacks and help people everywhere make positive changes to their lives. Our OTs in CNWL will be sending these out across the Trust’s communication channels everyday this week so keep an eye out and join them to celebrate the amazing work they do.
