#UnderTheScope  ‘Exploring   Intersectionality: Art Psychotherapy, Digital Media, and LGBTQ+ Narratives in Marginalised Environments'

Event Question:  How can LGBTQIA+ perspectives, shape our responses to societal crises, and how can we navigate intersections within marginalised spaces?

Event Statement:  Building on our recent seminar that explored the domains of traditional music therapy models as well as digital wellbeing practices (see more here), our upcoming   4th Seminar takes us on a journey to explore the entanglements of social environments, places, and events where therapeutic practices can make a   significant impact. Our primary focus will be on the margins of society and the construction of spaces that often delineate distinct social languages and interactions for LGBTQ+ individuals. To illuminate this topic, we have invited two esteemed presenters, each coming from different academic and practical disciplines, including art psychotherapy and digital media.

Our colleague Dr Jessica Collier (Art Therapist) will be presenting along with Dr Ivan Girina (Brunel games lecturer) and Sanjini Kedia (Dance Movement Psychotherapist and doctoral student).

Tuesday 20 February 2024 6pm to 8:30pm

CNWL THQ, First Floor, 350 Euston Road, London, NW1 3AX

Webinar: Supporting Transgender Service Users Policy FAQs & Training for Milton Keynes WICU (Closed event)

As part of its commitment to support services’ understanding of the Trust’s first Supporting Transgender Service Users Policy, the Pride@CNWL Network holds bespoke monthly webinars for any staff to attend. The webinars will go through some Frequently Asked Questions, scenarios and have Question & Answer time to help staff trouble-shoot their ideas and queries. Privacy and confidentiality will be maintained about the questions/scenarios received, and the sessions will not be recorded.

The policy provides staff and managers with a framework to successfully support trans patients receiving CNWL services and empower CNWL staff to provide the most inclusive care possible to patients who identify as transgender, gender variant, non-binary or intersex and that all care is compliant with the Equality Act 2010, the Gender Recognition Act 2004 and CNWL core values and Health and Wellbeing for Life aims.

It acknowledges the historic but still current discrimination and health inequalities trans people experience, which can prevent them from accessing appropriate health services and the consequence of which can be risk to health and life. Teams can request training from Pride@CNWL by emailing lgbt.cnwl@nhs.net.

Embracing Neuroqueer Identities: Intersectionality in Neurodiversity

This event aims to educate and inform about the intersection of neurodiversity and LGBTQ+ identities within the healthcare context, particularly focusing on the lived experiences and support needs of neuroqueer individuals.

The central premise is that neurodivergent individuals, such as those with autism or ADHD, are more likely to identify as LGBTQ+ than the general population. This intersectionality can lead to unique life experiences that traditional healthcare services may not be fully equipped to address. The presentation seeks to shed light on these issues through the latest research findings and personal narratives, emphasising the importance of peer support, sensory-friendly environments, and the need for mental health services to evolve with a more inclusive approach.

This session is designed to broaden perspectives, challenge traditional views, and advocate for a more inclusive and supportive approach to mental health care that acknowledges and celebrates the diversity of all individuals.

All welcome - Please request a Teams diary invite from lgbt.cnwl@nhs.net.

#UnderTheScope - Medicine as Faith

Human beings often long for a sense of purpose in their lives. For a very large proportion of humanity, spirituality is a fundamental part of this quest.

Paying attention to the voices and practices of inclusive communities can help to shift narratives claiming that the exercise of freedom of religion or belief is incompatible with the equal enjoyment of human rights by LGBTQ+ persons.

See the Pride@CNWL Trustnet page for the Teams link.
