CNWL’s Medical Education Team has handed out its annual excellence awards to recognise junior doctors and consultant trainers that go above and beyond to promote good patient care.
Awards are given to people who support to their team, show engagement in training, promote the learning and development of others, and always work to create a good working environment.
Dr Nadia Ahmed, who won the Consultant Trainer of the Year Award, said: “I was so touched by the nominations and to then win the award, as I have always been very passionate about education and training.
“I think my own experiences as a trainee since qualifying in 2007, and then how I was supported, particularly during my GUM training at Mortimer Market Centre itself with wonderful supervisors and mentors, really shaped the trainer that I wanted to be.
“I think it’s important to have a mutual relationship and holistic approach. We all have a lot on, but I never believe in the word busy, it’s about making time.”
Dr Parvinder Shergill won the Higher Trainee of the Year award and was shocked when she heard she’d won.
“It was a really nice surprise,” she said. “Thanks to all for having organised this.”
Meanwhile, Dr Michael Zervos, winner of the FY/Core/GP Trainee of the Year Award, said: “I was delighted, and very touched, to have my work over the last year recognised by being nominated for this prize.
“It's been a hard year in the NHS with ongoing strikes and disruption, and I'm really grateful for the support from my team (shout out to Westminster CAMHS!), my supervisors and my peers who have all become my friends.”
The winners and runners up of this year’s awards are below:
FY/Core/GP Trainee of the Year Award: Dr Michael Zervos
