Alison Butler -Thumbnail image.pngDr Cornelius Kelly, CNWL’s Chief Medical Officer announces the appointment of Alison Butler (pictured) as CNWL’s new Director of Improvement, that’s all elements of improvement including Quality Improvement (QI). Alison will also lead our newly formed Improvement Academy alongside Dr Simon Edwards, Clinical Lead. Her role will continue to lead both the Serious Incident Review Team and the Information Governance Team.

Dr Kelly said: “I am delighted to welcome Alison Butler to the important role of Director of Improvement in CNWL. She brings a wealth of experience and skills in the science of improvement and has led on the development of our Trustwide QI Programme from its inception in 2017.

I know she is excited to start her new role and I am sure you will offer her every assistance as she settles into the job.”

Originally from Derbyshire, Alison qualified as a Podiatrist before relocating to London. She has over 33 years’ experience working in the NHS, originally as a clinician specialising in the diabetic foot, then in operational management of community and inpatient services, following this she spent eight years as a commissioner and joint commissioner across health and social care in Harrow. 

Alison joined CNWL in 2011 and during her time as Associate Director of Programme Management has led a number of strategic improvement initiatives including the development of our Single Point of Access into our adult mental health services in London, the DRIVE programme which introduced lean principles to community services and a number of Accelerated Service Improvement Projects (ASIPs) across front line services. In the last four years she has led our successful QI Programme. She is a trained LEAN practitioner, an Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) trained Improvement Coach and Improvement Advisor, is a faculty member of the South of England Mental Health Collaborative, and a member of the Kings Fund Q Community.

Alison said, “I am delighted to start my new role as Director of Improvement and to lead the development of our new Improvement Academy. I am passionate about creating an environment that supports not only staff but also service users and carers to improve our services and plan to achieve this through the Academy.”

Alison lives in Hertfordshire with her husband, two teenage boys and her Golden Retriever Lola. In her spare time she enjoys running, gardening and is an interior design obsessive.
