CNWL has opened a new acute male mental health ward at the Kingswood Centre in Brent. This eight-bedded unit will help support the NHS with increased demand over winter and offer a better environment to receive the high-level care they need.

The ward is a temporary extension of a new 16-bedded male ward that is being built on the Park Royal site which is scheduled to open in Spring 2024.

The acute ward is for people who are age 18 or over and male, where their mental illness is such that 24-hour inpatient care is necessary due to the severity of their condition. Patients should also be settled and supported with medication.

More information on the new ward, including how referrals are made and referral criteria, can be found here.

Philippa Galligan, Brent Borough Director, said: “Thank you to our staff in Brent and estates who have worked at pace to get this temporary ward open ahead of September to support people in our community quicker.”

Graeme Caul, Chief Operating Officer, said “This new ward will help men, who are going through significant mental distress, to get the support they need in a more therapeutic environment and create more beds for those most in need of timely support”.
