If you are in a band 6 role you may be thinking about Continuing Professional development (CPD) in this role or preparing for your next step.

A new CNWL Allied Health Professions Career Guide has been developed specifically for all AHP staff working in band 6 roles. This guide sets out the resources available to support your CPD and career progression including training and development opportunities.

Emma Nicklin, Associate Director of Allied Health Professions and Trust Head of Profession for Occupational Therapy was involved in producing the guide, she said:

“I’m delighted to have this career development guide to specifically support our band 6 workforce. At this level of practice people are experienced and clinically confident yet can struggle to feel ready for or even know what the next step might be.  We want out our staff to grow, learn , develop and craft their careers with us in the CNWL Allied Health Professions family and we hope this will help.”

A key aim of the Allied Health Professions (AHP) workforce development project has been to identify key factors that support and promote staff development and retention.

Last year, CNWL colleagues were invited to focus groups and shared their experience of working as band 6 AHPs in the Trust.

One participant said: “I have a competency framework and regular supervision where my CPD and career progression are addressed.”

Toria Kilsby, Head of Profession for Speech and Language Therapy and Audiology hopes the guide will support colleagues to progress in their career.

Toria said: “Many colleagues described how they were well supported upon stepping into their role, particularly with clinical skills development and supervision. However, more support regarding other aspects of development was needed, such as leadership, providing training or being involved in research, QI and service development. We hope that this guide, together with the CNWL B6 development programme, will begin to address these needs.”
