Percy Watungwa, Lead Nurse for Camden and Inner London shares his journey in honour of International Nurses Day.
“Nursing is a beautiful profession with a wide range of developmental opportunities,” he says. “The impact of nursing is immediate and satisfying.”
Although Percy stumbled into nursing as a profession, his career to date has been thrilling and memorable.
“Some memories that come to mind are the 2005 London Bombings and most recently the Covid-19 pandemic. The collective response to these unfortunate incidents from the whole of the NHS will always make me feel so proud of being a nurse.
“Covid-19 has reinforced my value to society and my local community. I have a better resolve and resilience. But society and the communities are the best judges! The increase in the number of people who want to become nurses is good testimony.”
“Be inquisitive and curious” is his advice for others wanting to pursue a career in nursing, and when asked what makes being a CNWL nurse unique, Percy said:
“CNWL is able to offer a variety of developmental opportunities and experience. The nurse representation at senior executive level gives me optimism and aspiration.”
