On Thursday 10 March, One Community Lead and Founder, Cate Latto, was invited by his Worshipful Mayor of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea (RBKC), Gerard Hargreaves, to attend this year’s Mayor’s Awards ceremony.
According to the Mayor’s office, the awards scheme “is held every year to recognise the people and organisations who have gone above and beyond to make an outstanding contribution to improving life for the borough’s residents.”
Cate was awarded in the individual contribution category for “the positive impact her work creating, developing and growing One Community (based at St Charles Hospital Mental Health Unit) has had on the health and wellbeing of service users. This work includes co-ordinating a huge range of co-produced activities and support groups, and establishing the One Community Radio to reduce isolation during the pandemic.”
Cate’s nomination described how her “limitless energy, enthusiasm and total commitment to the project are apparent to all who encounter her. She lives and breathes the organisation, ceaselessly looking for new opportunities to develop it.”

Many One Community champions have shared the Mayor’s sentiment. Terry Oliver, Director for Cleaner, Greener and Cultural Services (RBKC) said: “massive congratulations to Cate on winning the Mayor’s Award; it is so well deserved. Her energy and enthusiasm is incredible and contagious, and really enables projects to progress. We are very lucky to be working with you.”
Upon receiving the award, Cate said: “thank you to all who nominated me, for the beautiful testimonials of support (which really moved me) and to the Mayor Cllr Gerard Hargreaves who has been a great champion of our work. My love and thanks to all who lead with their hearts and minds to make up the very special network that is One Community.”
