Neighbourhood working took centre stage this week as the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, the Rt Hon Wes Streeting MP, visited James Wigg Practice in Kentish Town.
"This kind of neighbourhood health centre is exactly what we want to see across the country," he said.
Welcomed by Dr Jo Sauvage, Chief Medical Officer of the North Central London Integrated Care System, the Secretary of State saw first-hand how the neighbourhood team is turning national ambitions for integrated, community-based care into a reality. He also announced the impact of efforts to recruit more GPs.
The visit showcased how Camden’s first Integrated Neighbourhood Team is improving patient and staff experiences by uniting CNWL’s community health with social care, primary care and housing support in one shared space.
The Secretary of State was particularly interested in how the integrated team came to be. Henry Langford, Head of Integrated Neighbourhood Teams from Camden Council, shared how the strong relationships between partners played a crucial role in bringing the vision to life.
The East Neighbourhood Team, based at Kentish Town Health Centre, stands as a promising blueprint for neighbourhood care. Sofia Venuti, CNWL’s East Neighbourhood Lead, said it was great to have the team’s work recognised, and hopes “the rest of Camden can follow.”
