From the time Kingsbury Town Management Company acquired Silver Jubilee Park Football Ground they always wanted to put the local community’s wellbeing at the heart of everything they do.
The Mental Health project they have recently launched all happened due to a chance meeting with Richard Hay, one of CNWL’s Support Workers at the Brent Mental Health Service.
Richard works closely with the Early Intervention Service and through discussions he had with Robert Morris, Direct of Kingsbury Town Management Ltd, they talked about how football has the power to make a real difference to the lives of many people who are struggling with their mental health.
Robert Morris said, “Richard’s enthusiasm for a football related mental health project was infectious, it still is, and from that chance meeting the project was instigated and until now it has had a positive effect on local people ever since.”
The project started with weekly football training sessions. This allowed patients to get out of their homes and meet up with other patients going through similar struggles.
The game of football was a great way for patients to become confident, make new friends and be a part of a mental health football team which they call the Community Team.
