No Smoking Day is back this week (12 March 2025), offering another chance to help the nation’s 6 million smokers make a quit attempt.
This national event was launched back in 1984 and this year’s theme, Take back your life this No Smoking Day, is all about helping smokers reclaim the time they lose from smoking, focusing on the 20 minutes lost for every cigarette smoked.
Hillingdon Stop Smoking Team - Out and about in Uxbridge
The Hillingdon Stop Smoking Team will be hitting the streets of Uxbridge Town Centre with their electronic van outside Pret A Manger, ready to support anyone looking to quit. Following successful campaigns in Hayes Town, Harefield, and Uxbridge, over 360 people have visited the van for support.
With 11.8% of Hillingdon’s population still smoking (that’s about 28,900 people) and around 240 smoking-related deaths each year, the team is dedicated to offering advice, support, and treatment—not just for smokers, but for their friends and families too.
They’ll also have interactive health materials, quit packs, and fast-track referrals to their expanding outreach clinics across the borough to spread hope, optimism and the real-life benefits of quitting.

Throughout the week, the team will continue promoting the campaign by setting up displays and sharing resources with partners across Hillingdon. Working alongside outreach clinics, they will engage with family hubs, community centres, YMCAs, Hillingdon Hospital, GP surgeries, libraries, mental health services, Arch, and local pharmacies within the Hillingdon Stop Smoking scheme.
Breathe – Camden and Islington’s Stop Smoking Service
Breathe has a packed schedule of events. The team will be visiting University College London, Whittington Hospital, and local community organisations to provide resources and expert advice.
On the morning of No Smoking Day, they’ll be supporting Islington College, where students have been running their own quit campaign with the help of workshops and webinars. In the afternoon, the team will head to Westminster College’s Gray’s Inn Campus to offer support to both students and staff.
