On Thursday 6 February 2025, Time to Talk Day united people, families, workplaces, and communities across the UK to engage in the nation’s biggest mental health conversation. The goal of the day was simple: to encourage open, honest discussions about mental health to reduce stigma, create supportive environments, and ultimately, change lives.
To commemorate the event CNWL staff in the Minds Matter Network held a Listening Space to reflect and provide feedback on their experiences related to mental health both at work and at home.
What is Time to Talk Day?
Time to Talk Day is a nationwide campaign designed to raise awareness of mental health issues and encourage people to converse about mental well-being. It is spearheaded by mental health organisations Mind, Rethink Mental Illness, See Me, SAMH, Inspire, and Time to Change Wales, in partnership with the Co-op.
Why is Time to Talk Day important?
While mental health issues affect millions of people in the UK every year, many individuals continue to struggle in silence. Two-thirds of the UK population admitted to putting on a "brave face" when mental health is discussed , according to last year’s findings from Time to Talk Day.
How does Time to Talk Day help?
At its core, Time to Talk Day is about creating environments where people feel empowered to speak up and listen. Whether it’s a conversation at home, a chat at work, or a discussion with friends, it’s about making mental health a part of normal conversation—just like physical health.
What can you do to get involved?
Time to Talk day is an opportunity to recognise the value in taking time and starting the conversation around mental health. We all have mental health and by talking about it we can not only support ourselves but also encourage others to share. Time to Talk Day was developed by Mind and Rethink Mental Illness to support communities to feel more comfortable talking about mental health. Therefore, CNWL NHS Talking Therapies support this mission and are encouraging people to start a conversation and talk - it could be opening up to a friend, relative or colleague, or by contacting one of the services available across Central and Northwest London.
Pull up a chair. It’s time to share.
