We're thrilled to share that Andrew Machin, CNWL's Associate Director for Charity Development, has been awarded a Veteran Aware Merit Coin.

Awarded by the Veterans Covenant Healthcare Alliance (VCHA), the coin is given to individuals or teams who have shown extraordinary commitment to removing disadvantage for the armed forces community.

This award recognises Andrew’s dedication throughout CNWL’s journey to becoming an officially accredited NHS Veteran Aware Trust, and the enduring part he played in this.

Andrew has led CNWL’s improvement plans, including the establishment of Armed Forces Champions and a resource webpage that links to support services. His efforts helped the Trust earn the Bronze Award from the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme and he collaborated with Step Into Health to assist prospective employees from the Armed Forces community.

Andrew said:

“I’m really pleased that the hard work over the past year has been recognised with this award. It’s been both a privilege and a pleasure to collaborate with an incredible team, building on the signing of the Armed Forces Covenant in 2023. Together, we’ve begun raising awareness of the needs and rights of veterans and the armed forces community within CNWL.”

General Lord Richard Dannett, Patron of the VCHA, and Professor Tim Briggs, Chair of the VCHA, said:

“These coins are not just tokens; they are a heartfelt expression of gratitude and a tangible reminder of the appreciation we hold for your commitment. Stepping forward to advocate for a community when there are so many others who would benefit from your skills is not something that should be overlooked. We recognise the work, time, and emotional effort you have given for your Trust and the patients in your community.”
