In this short video, we hear from CNWL’s Infant Feeding team in Hillingdon, who support parents with feeding and caring for their babies.
The team host drop-in groups in collaboration with Hillingdon Peer Supporters, Hillingdon Hospital maternity services and Hillingdon Children’s Centres.
Sally Crowther, Infant Feeding Coordinator says:
“Come along to the groups - you’re guaranteed to meet another mother who is experiencing similar things to you. We have trained peer supporters, they’re mothers who have breastfed their own babies. You can also access health visitors, midwives and lactation consultants for more specialist help.”
Sarah, Breastfeeding Peer Support Worker said:
“The groups are so important because becoming a parent is such a life changing experience. In the groups we can give women lots of time to debrief their feeding experience. We can listen to them and help unravel where they are so they can continue a really positive feeding relationship with their babies.”
We also chatted with mothers who regularly attend the group.
Paula says: “I didn’t realise how difficult and challenging it would be. You need a lot of perseverance and motivation and the group really helped me. I felt like I had a lot of support, and it helps to build your confidence.”
