The aims of the service are:

1. To provide support for service users who are rough sleeping or at risk of rough sleeping, who experience issues with their mental health to promote their services.

2. To signpost to appropriate services suitable for the service user need, this may include third sector as opposed to statutory.

3. To reduce the impact of service user need on our internal crisis services and external emergency partners.

4. To develop effective working relationships with Community Mental Health Services to ensure appropriate referrals are actioned.

5. To support organisations to understand the CMHT offer and to be the link organisation between CMHT and the city-wide forum .

The team supports anyone who is rough sleeping or at risk of rough sleeping who are isolated because of being estranged and/or uprooted from familiar surroundings who are experiencing high levels of distress.

Service users will already be known to third sector organisations who refer directly to the Rough Sleepers team. The Rough Sleepers receive referrals from a range of sources working within street homelessness.

We see most of our referrals via regular outreach sessions either at day centres or on the street.

The service operates usual office hours from 09:00-17:00, Monday to Friday. We also work regular early and late shifts on the streets in order to see people at their sleep site.

Help in a crisis

If you need help during a crisis, please do the following:

Contact the CNWL service looking after you during their office hours

  • If the crisis is during when your service is closed, there are alternative options provided by the NHS found on this page.
  • If you are not already being looked after by CNWL or elsewhere within the NHS, see your GP during normal working hours as they can then refer you to a local service.

Find your closest GP on NHS Choices.
