The Older Person’s Assessment Service (TOPAS) is a 16-bedded en-suite unit, staffed by qualified psychiatric nurses and healthcare assistants.
The service provides assessment and treatment predominately for older adults (usually over the age of 65) who have complex or acute mental health needs. The service supports people to return to independent living wherever possible.
The service is able to support people who:
- Are over the age of 18.
- Are a resident of Milton Keynes or registered with a general practitioner (GP) in Milton Keynes.
Referrals are made via:
- GPs
- Mental health professionals
- Single Point of Access (SPA)

Buses: 5 & 6, which both go via Fern Grove. Arrivabus
TOPAS Ward is on the Ground Floor of the Waterhall Care Home. The entrance to the ward is to the left of the building, signposted TOPAS Ward.
The service is operational 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
