Multi-Agency Psychological Support (MAPS) is a specialist team that helps vulnerable children and young people in Hillingdon (known to social care).

The team consists of Clinical Psychologists, Trainee Clinical Psychologists and an Assistant Psychologist.

We specialise in working with those facing complex difficulties, who may already have been working with several professionals and may struggle to access community services. We provide specialist interventions for families, young people and carers where there are issues related to complex trauma and attachment.

For children and young people living in care, lots of agencies are involved in their lives such as health, social care and education. MAPS work to support the network in maintaining a connected thinking process and as much stability and understanding as possible for young people at all times.

We offer various ways of working depending on what is thought to be most helpful. This can be therapeutic work on an individual basis for young people or their carers, for carers and young people together, and/or for the professional system around the child.

The service is a partnership with the Hillingdon Local Authority.

This service is for children and young people aged 0 to 18 in Hillingdon who are:

  • Looked After and Adopted Children and Children with Special Guardianship Orders
  • Children in Need of Protection, Children in Need and Stronger Families services

We offer specialist interventions focused on issues relating to complex trauma and attachment. Initially we will liaise with the professional network who have identified MAPS as the appropriate service to refer to. Through consultation, screening and assessment we aim to identify the most appropriate intervention.

This could be:

  • Supporting referral to another CAMHS team better able to meet the young person, carer or families need
  • Family work or therapy
  • Signposting to group work, such as Parenting Groups (i.e. Non-Violent Resistance)
  • Individual therapeutic support
  • Clinical thinking with the network (called consultation or ‘thinking together’)
  • Indirect work, which is when CAMHS professionals are part of the network and therefore attend Strategy, Child in Need and Child Protection meetings.
