Do you support someone with Borderline / Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder (BPD)?
FACTS is a free five week course for parents, carers of people with BPD.
FACTS teaches carers skills which help them to cope with their own feelings, to rebuild and maintain relationships, reduce conflict and to support their relative or friend.
Topics:
- Introduction to BPD
- Mindfulness and Emotion Management
- Mentalising
- Validation
- Problem Solving between us and the person with BPD
The FACTs leaders have lived experience of being a carer of someone with BPD and so have a special understanding of a relationship with someone with BPD.
This allows them to describe how they use the FACTS skills in their daily lives, and to deliver the course content with an empathy and insight that is unlikely to be achieved by a health professional who has probably not had this experience.
It is a course to help people who care about people with Borderline Personality Disorder or Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder (EUPD). We meet to support one another to feel less isolated and to share ideas on how to cope better with the challenges we face in supporting someone with BPD/EUPD
The FACTS leaders are parents and carers with lived expereince and have been trained to deliver the FACTS course. They are supervised by CNWL but have no specific clinical or professional mental health qualifications, and do not have any clinical responsibility towards participants or their families and friends, nor for how carers use the skills, or for any subsequent events.
Their lived experience gives the leaders a special understanding of a relationship with someone with BPD. This allows them to describe how they use the FACTS skills in their daily lives, and to deliver the course content with an empathy and insight that is unlikely to be achieved by a health professional who has probably not had this experience.
