Rewarding our staff

We really value continued service to the NHS and formally recognise those who achieve continuous 20, 30 and 40 years CNWL service while working for us. A £200 gift voucher is awarded after 20 years and then a further £100 for 10 years completed thereafter.

We will automatically contact you the month after you have completed your service. If you think you should have been contacted, please email cnw-tr.benefits@nhs.net with your continuous start date at the NHS.

Retirement Gift Vouchers are awarded to any member of staff who retires with more than 15 years continuous NHS service and have worked for CNWL for at least 2 years.

You can also claim £75 towards a retirement party. You and your line manager will need to apply for a Retirement Award via the application form found on Trustnet.

For the last four years we have given all staff their birthday off as an extra day’s leave; a day for you and to do something for you.

Vivup highfive is an exciting new way to recognise colleagues’ hard work, achievements via an easy to use smartphone application, within our core values.

To access the app, simply download from your appropriate app store and enter CNWL followed by your employee number (found on your payslip). Once accepted, enter CNWLhi5 and you can send a hi five to your colleagues at your leisure.

The platform is also where you will can claim your voucher for the Retirement and Long Service Awards.


Health and wellbeing

The Occupational Health Team provides advice and support in regard to the impact of ill health on work. We offer assessments of fitness to work pre-placement and during employment, new entrant screening, in employment immunity screening and immunisation programmes.

We promote ability and supporting disabilities in the workplace on commencement and in-employment and support the Health and Wellbeing agenda.

The Employee Assistance Programme (Workplace Options) is available to help you with any personal problems that you may not want to talk about at work. It is available to any employees and their immediate family members 24 hours a day, 7 days per week. Face-to-face counselling is available with experienced counsellors accredited with the appropriate bodies. There is also a specific managers advice line.

  • Emotional Support for any personal and/or workplace concerns
  • Coping with Stress, Anxiety and Depression
  • Information/Referrals on various legal processes
  • Financial and Debt Planning
  • Life Coaching (help with any changes in life)
  • Planning for Retirement

CNWL staff can now gain quick and easy support and advice on musculoskeletal conditions from PhysioMed.

There are two different zones of advice available:

  • Self-referral to PhysioMed (clinical advice)
  • The wellbeing Zone (self-help advice)

Keeping Well is a staff support hub working in partnership with CNWL and West London NHS Trust.

The service aims to promote positive wellbeing and psychological support to all NHS, health and social care staff who live or work in North West London. This also includes the London Ambulance Service, volunteers and those providing care to others in the community.

Our wellbeing champions help support wellbeing through raising awareness of wellbeing activities, promoting healthy lifestyles and positive mental health.

Supporting your personal development

The Learning Development Zone (LDZ)  is an online portal where staff can access all their mandatory and additional training courses. These can be online or face-face courses. They cover a range of clinical, non-clinical skills, professional and personal skills.

The CNWL Coaching Service is run by staff for staff and can help you translate your goals into positive actions. Staff can have access to a coach on a 1-1 basis to help them think through options when considering or experiencing a variety of situations in the workplace.

Our 21st Century Leadership Programme (21CLP) is our new way of developing our leaders of the future, by creating a clear, coherent and very values-driven compassionate leadership programme, providing a defined leadership pathway for all staff.

Scope for Growth is the new framework for supporting personal growth and developing talent across the NHS. It is designed to promote inclusive career development conversations and provide an opportunity for everyone to take ownership of their own development and career aspirations, whatever those may be.

The yearlong Chief Nurse Fellowship Programme is designed to develop future nursing leaders, tailored to particular needs with the aim of advancing nursing excellence and leadership.

The fully-funded programme is aimed at Band 7 and/or 8a BAME nurses.

Salary Sacrifice Schemes

Vivup are CNWL’s main benefit provider where staff are able to access a number of salary sacrifice schemes (Payroll Pay) that enables you to spread the cost of items over 12 months.

A salary sacrifice is where an employee gives up the right to receive part of their gross cash pay due under their contract of employment in order to receive a benefit from the trust. The monthly gross salary reductions will be made direct from salary through payroll. Although salary sacrifice arrangements may reduce Income Tax, pension and National Insurance charges, the provision these schemes (apart from Cycle to Work and Childcare Vouchers) are liable for Benefit in Kind Tax.

This scheme allows employees to exchange part of their salary for a brand-new car.

Financial wellbeing and support with cost of living

You are entitled to apply for an annual interest free standard season ticket or car parking which is paid through monthly payroll. You need to apply through the Expenses system and then purchase your ticket and submit your receipt.

Once the Season Ticket or Car Park Loan is made, it will be deducted in 10 equal instalments commencing in the month in which the loan is issued.

Your holiday is linked to your length of service in the NHS. When you join as a full-time employee, you’re entitled to 27 days a year. This increases to 29 days a year after 5 years, and 33 days a year after 10 years’ service.

There are some differences based on your speciality:

Consultants:

• 32 days annual leave a year for less than seven years of completed NHS service

• 34 days annual leave a year after more than seven years of completed NHS service.

Speciality doctors and associate specialists:

• 27 days annual leave a year for less than two years of completed NHS service

• 32 days annual leave a year after two years of completed NHS service

• 34 days annual leave a year after seven years of completed NHS service.

Trainee doctors:

• 27 days annual leave a year on first appointment to the NHS

• 32 days annual leave a year after five years of completed NHS service.

Staff can ‘buy’ or ‘sell’ their annual leave by up to a maximum of five days. The salary enhancement will be paid as a non-pensionable supplement.

You will still need to take a minimum of 22 days, if you sell five days. Your line manager will need to complete a change form and update Healthroster.
